Caleb Thomas

Bio

Caleb's social justice leadership within Ithaca heavily influences his artwork. He dedicates his life to ending racism and other forms of oppression in the Ithaca community.  In this work, risk-taking and moving through discomfort is key. The reward is great when we move through the world with generosity and feel connected to the people around us.

Statement

In Caleb Thomas' ongoing series of prints Balancing on Rooftops is a metaphor for being vulnerable, taking risks, and seeing new perspectives. Balancing on Rooftops is a vision born of the fear he felt on finding out he was going to have a child.  His solution was to climb onto the rooftop, pretend to be a weathervane and simply point in the direction the wind was blowing.  It was from this wild desperation that the forgotten beauty of being present came to life.
