Molotov Cocktail by Paul Van Atta

Paul Van Atta will exhibit work he created as the Ink Shop’s 2017-18 Kahn Family Fellow. Paul’s imagery started as an experiment with found materials, and developed to including screenprinting, drawing, painting and drypoint engraving as a means of engaging with the public. He uses byproducts of marketing and retail displays as a substrate for his economic commentary. Many of his images overlay human characters in a state of befuddlement or general distress as one might be, having come to terms with the bulldozing of their community mom and pop stores and trying to navigate the uncaring, merchandise mega-warehouses. Paul is a painter and illustrator and graduated from SUNY New Paltz with an MFA in printmaking. He has also spent three years working within the same company, starting as a cashier and then relieving his duties as an Operations Manager

Each year The Ink Shop awards the fellowship to an emerging printmaker who shows promise and dedication to the world of printmaking. At the end of their tenure at The Ink Shop, the fellow is celebrated with this exhibit, their opportunity to show us, and the public what they have been working on over the past year.
