SUMMARY:Lisa Mackie | The Forest for the Trees - and the Sea
DESCRIPTION:October 2 – November 20\, 2026 \nAbout the exhibit“A meadow in the Hudson Valley that grew into a mid-growth forest near a tidal inlet of the Hudson River has provided the inspiration for artist Lisa Mackie’s most recent body of work: FOREST FOR THE TREES…AND THE SEA. With a longtime interest in botany and the natural sciences\, Mackie offers us both the macro and micro visions of nature. Her works are not pictures of nature but instead are a wealth of both intimate and majestic sensory impressions of nature. \nThis work had grown from a fecund cross-pollination of media\, images and ideas. Mackie germinates her art by producing mono-prints and photo images of textures and patterns. These then grow into her paintings\, collages\, and eccentric organic book forms – forms that literally and figuratively expand and grow. Detail is manifest at each scale – from seedling to sapling to “mature growth” pieces that tower above us. Taken as a whole\, the exhibition embodies the early American ideal “out of one – many.” — Larry List 2026 \nJoin Lisa for this wonderful monoprint workshop:Monoprints in the Style of Wolf Kahn | Lisa MackieSaturday 11/21    10 AM – 3 PM \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Artwork of Lisa Mackie“The word “Michi” is Japanese for pathway. A “Michi” is a walkway usually in a garden or small unpaved sidewalk. It can also refer to a path of thought\, a way\, or direction… My artwork is a compilation of picture fragments that I have photographed drawn and written about and remembered. The images deal with a delicate balance between cognition and process. The source of each large ‘circle’ of work has been initiated as an investigation of a sequence. Initially\, ‘the sequence is explored in the form of several related unique books that are both visual and written. Paintings\, paper pieces\, text\, computer generated images\, and sculpture develop from the process of tracing and editing all the materials. Through my own intuitive explanation\, I again uncover more visuals and text. I have found that by tracking the evolution of each image\, and by further scrutinizing and honing there is a type of infinity that results. \nMackie is the proprietor of Lisa H. Mackie Studios\, an open\, contract\, fine art print shop established in NYC\, 1990. Lisa is a Master Printer with 40 years experience in lithography\, intagilo etching\, silkscreen\, monotyupe/print\, multiplate color printmaking\, photo/print processes including Solar Plates\, photo litho\, Pronto Plate and printing from a Xerox Copy\, also Western and Asian paper-making. \nShe has a BFA and MFA in painting and printmaking from the University of Michigan and University of Wisconsin. Her clients include artists such as Marylyn Dintenfass\, Amy Ernst\, Grace Hartigan\, Katherine Kadish\, Wolf Kahn\, Sol Lewitt\, Emily Mason and Marianne Weil. Lisa’s New York City print Studio is sunny and fully equipped with a 36×60 Charles Brand Etching Press\, Asian Papermaking facilities\, and plate and stone lithography. \nMackie is represented by June Kelly Gallery in New York City since 1989. Notable solo exhibitions and installations include Rondo/India (2024)\, which translated her sensorial memories of a 1999 journey through India into abstract cinematic motion\, and Here Then and Now (2018). Her work is included in prominent international institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston\, The Baltimore Museum of Art\, The Brooklyn Museum \, and The Botswana National Museum of Art. \nSee more of Mackie’s work at Junekellygallery.com and Lisamackie.com

SUMMARY:Workshop with Lisa Mackie\, Monoprints in the Style of Wolf Kahn
DESCRIPTION:The style that was developed with Wolf Kahn in the early 1980’s specified using water-soluble crayons and ink\, primarily from Speedball and Caran D’Ache inks. He initially used scumble and blending techniques to create the impressive tones/washes that you see in his oil paintings. Participants can focus on the process utilizing a frosted mylar plate with a thin coat of gum Arabic\, and then reactivating ghost images\, creating amazing second pulls. Mackie worked with Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason starting in 1989 at Kathy Caraccio’s second floor walkup on the NYC Bowery. Kahn and Mason both continued to explore with Mackie printmaking techniques that coupled with their natural art practice. This experience led to Lisa getting her own press and her own studio\, in collaboration with many different artists\, including Wolf and Emily.  This specific workshop focuses on one of the art practices that Wolf employed in over 20 years of printmaking experiences with Lisa Mackie. \n \n \n \n \n \n Monoprints in the Style of Wolf Kahn | Lisa MackieSaturday 11/21    10 AM – 3 PM \n$170 non-associates / $144.5 associates ($20 for materials) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n Course Fee\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Price + materials fee $190.00 USD\n\n\n\n Associate Price + materials $164.50 USD\n\n\n\n First Time Student Price + materials $164.50 USD\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mackie is the proprietor of Lisa H. SUMMARY:H. Peter Kahn | Painter\, Printmaker\, Typographer
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception Friday\, December 4th\, 2026 5-8pm \n \n \n \n \n \n The Ink Shop is honored to celebrate the work of H. Peter Kahn (1921–1997)\, an accomplished printmaker\, painter\, typographer\, and teacher whose artistic vision and generous mentorship helped inspire the founding of the Ink Shop. At the invitation of Kahn’s family\, we have been welcomed into the drawers and stacks of his work\, bringing together woodcuts\, drawings\, books\, and papers that offer an intimate look at a remarkably varied creative life. Known to many in our community as a skilled artist\, printmaker and mentor. \nKahn’s influence extended beyond the work he produced to the students and fellow artists he encouraged\, the knowledge he shared\, and the creative community he helped nurture. For the Ink Shop\, presenting his work is a way to honor that legacy. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n For Peter Kahn\, typography was together an art and a craft\, shaped by the history of writing\, printing\, and bookmaking. In Letters\, Lines and Pages\, he encouraged learning through practice and close observation\, showing how letterforms\, text\, and page design work together to communicate meaning. He believed that good printmaking combined technical skill with an appreciation for history and craftsmanship. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Excerpts from Letters\, Lines and Pages: A Practical Book of Letters by Peter Kahn\, published by Fall Creek Press in 1982.
