SUMMARY:Repeat | Jessica Warner & Kat Moore
DESCRIPTION:Repeat | Jessica Warner & Kat Moore\n2025-26 Fellowship Exhibit \nThe Ink Shop is excited to present the work of Jessica Warner (Kahn Family Fellow) and Kat Moore (Fred Madden Fellow).  \nJessica explores movement\, change and the passage of time through processes that involve accumulation\, repetition and contradiction. The unsettled state of the world currently is a backdrop for exploring the parallel forward and backward movement of cycles of creation and destruction. \nDrawn to the CMYK screenprinting method\, Kat layers color as a way to map the complexities of perception and thought and is obsessed with incorporating textiles\, whether physical or implied. “I stitch together the fragments of the inner and outer worlds that I move through.” This body of work consists of sheer curtains layered with hand-drawn screenprinted plaid prints and images of a particularly important moment of self-reflection. \nDrawing each line in the plaid is a repetitive action that reflects the repetitive nature of screenprinting. This repetitive process has also revealed itself as a personal coping mechanism for my own navigation of obsessive thought patterns. As I layer the controlled patterns of plaid with the layers of an image of a natural space\, I consider the notion of how obsessive thoughts work in tandem against the natural flowing of changes in one’s environment. No matter how much you extract each layer of obsessive thoughts\, the patterns of self-realization eventually emerge. \n

SUMMARY:Exposed and Impressed
DESCRIPTION:Opening reception: February 6th 2026\, 5-8pm\nShowing 2/6/2026 – 2/27/2026 \nThis exhibition explores the spaces where photography and print media intersect- where light becomes ink and images are transformed through hand-pulled techniques. Artists explore techniques like photo lithography\, photo-screenprinting\, photopolymer intaglio\, and alternative photographic processes\, among others\, embracing hybrid approaches to image-making. \nWith a focus on experimentation and material exploration\, the works included in this exhibit push beyond traditional methods\, layering photographic and print-based techniques to create work that is both technically refined and conceptually compelling. \nExposed & Impressed explores the alchemy of process: the unpredictable\, the tactile\, and the transformative. \nImage above: Sophie Lin Paper Lanterns (photo litho and screen print). Esther Jung and Soraya Jabir Malleable Walls (cyanotype\, cotton fabric) \nParticipating artists: \nNEBA\nEsther Jung\nSophie Lin\nCarlin Dypko\nBradley Verhelle\nElla Kirlew\nAseel Albokhari\nAngelina Rappa\nPhoebe Finkel\nAnton Nazarenko\nKatelyn Yun\nJack Clauss\nSoraya Jabir

SUMMARY:Sarah Smelser | Hodophilia
DESCRIPTION:A hodophile is a lover of travel\, a wanderer\, a walker\, a restless spirit: someone who travels to escape\, walks to think\, and wanders to learn about the world but moreover to repeatedly discover oneself. The works in Hodophilia are inspired by physical and psychic journeys: navigating labyrinthian footpaths on the island of Skopelos\, Greece; climbing the sun-scorched hills of Santa Cruz\, CA; and hiking in New Mexico’s Sandia Mountains. \nWhat happens when you travel? Ideally\, you step away from workaday cares\, emails\, leaky faucets\, and sweeping the driveway. You can remake yourself\, not only as a person without these trappings but also as someone full of curiosity\, open to new opportunities\, with fresh eyes to take in the world. These fresh eyes\, along with a sturdy pair of shoes and a cell phone\, help me build and maintain my studio practice; I use memory\, impression\, and my experiences as a traveler to cobble together an invented\, non-traditional landscape.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sarah Smelser has been an artist in residence at Vermont Studio Center; Franz Masereel Center\, Artica Bilbao\, Kala Art Institute\, Jentel Artist Residency\, Skopelos Foundation for the Arts\, Anchor Graphics\, Ballinglen Arts Foundation\, Tamarind Institute\, and Remarque Print Workshop. SUMMARY:Lindsey Potoff | Reaching into the Lake
DESCRIPTION:Reaching Into the Lake is a series of etchings intertwining the real and imaginary. It is an act of noticing-things often missed– corners in stairwells\, lingering hands\, and dreams forgotten by the morning. To reach-into a lake is to extend a hand to something new\, see one’s own reflection and the way it is broken up by-ripples\, and come out different. Likewise\, this selection of prints can act as a reflecting pool for the-viewer to consider their own life and memories\, and leave a little bit different. \nLindsey Potoff is a printmaker from Michigan. She received her BFA from Cornell University in 2022\,-and is currently attending the University of Connecticut for her MFA. Her work acts as a collection of-comforts\, a method of notetaking on life as it passes\, and a recognition of the remnant feelings in-between. She has worked as an art educator for children and young adults and now regularly participates-in fairs and festivals such as the Ann Arbor Original Street Art Fair\, the Peninsular Printmaker Fair\, and-Ithaca Festival.

SUMMARY:Useful Work vs Useless Toil
DESCRIPTION:Sep 6 – Oct 24\, 2024Opening Reception September 6\, 5-8pm2nd Reception\, October 4\, 5-8pmUseful Labor vs Useless Toil is a pamphlet and lecture given by the decorative artist\, poet and philosopher William Morris in 1884. It was a critique of the waste and inequality inherent in the capitalist system exacerbated by the Industrial Revolution. A new relationship between man and machine was born and Morris felt the need to sound the alarm bell. While he did not object to the use of machines to ease and assist labor\, he was concerned about the potential of new technology to replace skilled labor. He worried about out quality of life and in particular the sense of satisfaction and pleasure derived from meaningful work. This exhibit will examine our relationship to various forms of technology as creative tools. Industrial revolution era machines such as the printing press\, jacquard loom\, and knitting machines are still in use today. Can we express ourselves creatively and with a satisfactory level of craftsmanship and artistic expression using machines vs creating things wholly by hand? How does technology change the creative process? And what of the looming technology of our era? What are the dangers and benefits of artificial intelligence to the creative process and to the skilled labor of today? \n \n \n \n \n \n Participating artists:Melissa Conroy • Pamela Drix • Leslie Ford • Aileen Holmes • Craig Mains • Elizabeth Meiklejohn • Margo Mensing • Daniel Preston • Laura Robert • Laura Rowley • Werner Sun • Anna Warfield • Julia K Wright \n

SUMMARY:Tagasode | Kimono Project
DESCRIPTION:Maria Barbosa • Cathy Bebout • Sas Colby • Scout Dunbar • Margo Klass • Kumi Korf • Matéa Lebeau • Mary Ellen Long • Miriam Schaer • Christa Wolf \nIn Japanese\, Tagasode translates to “whose sleeves?” a phrase used in classical love poetry to evoke the memory of a woman through her empty kimono. For this exhibition\, Kumi Korf gathered nine women artists\, sent them kimonos and invited them to create artwork with the garments as the catalyst. Though the kimono itself seems a precious work of art\, the prompt was to “be free”; an invitation to adventure\, playful chaos\, a brave step into the unknown.

SUMMARY:Kumi Korf & Christa Wolf | Telling Stories Side by Side
DESCRIPTION:In 1999\, The Ink Shop and Olive Branch Press were established by five artists including Christa Wolf. Three years later\, Kumi Korf was the first artist to have her work published by Olive Branch Press\, a set of three chine collé intaglio prints titled “Letters to the Planet” featuring Kumi’s writings\, with Christa as her master printer. Thus\, began almost a quarter century of friendship and collaboration\, with many hours spent at the etching press in Kumi’s studio\, cooking in her kitchen\, travelling together in Japan\, always side by side telling stories. Though they were born and raised in separate homelands\, their intuitive reactions to art and life are overlapping. This exhibition is the first time their works have been shown side by side\, just the two of them.

SUMMARY:Jari Poulin | Mirage
DESCRIPTION:June 3 – July 28; (Receptions: 6/3 & 7/1  5-8pm) \n\nMirage features a series of images that combine monoprints and black and white photographic transfers to create dream like worlds that speak to memory and imagination.  The work integrates her fascination with the idea of mirage or optical illusion by combining her images of specific places and people of her past with additional layers of monoprinting and other printmaking techniques that activate the emotional context and memory of the physical photograph.
