SUMMARY:Julianne Hunter | Ghost Collective
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception February 11\, 2022 5-8pm\nShowing Feb 11th through March 24th\n2nd Reception Friday\, March 4th \nThe Ink shop is proud to present Ghost Collective by the 2021-2022 Kahn Family Fellow\, Julianne Hunter. The work included in this exhibition draws directly from the basic longing to creating a sense of community and to foster relationships through collecting evidence of missed connections. The print shop is a collaborative space where one is a part of a select group of makers that pass down the knowledge of their skills. In the age of Covid-19\, our ways of connecting with each other have been tested in unimaginable ways. Ghost Collective challenges contemporary limitations as opportunities for investigation\, reflection and meditation. Common objects\, familial relics\, and discarded visual remnants are used to create forensic proof within the works\, translated through screenprint\, papermaking\, cyanotype\, and monotype. \nJulianne Hunter (b.1986) is a New York based artist with roots in the Hudson Valley\, Albany\, Ithaca and Brooklyn. Her work revolves around memory\, time\, growth and the conceptual framework of what makes “home.” Printmaking\, papermaking and sculpture are utilized most frequently in her installation-based and modular prints.  Hunter has shown nationally and internationally at Galerie de la Ferme du Mousseau in Elancourt\, France\, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art\, Colorado State University\, Saratoga Arts Center\, and the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center\, Del Mar College\, Gladwyne Library\, McKenna Theater at SUNY New Paltz\, Limner Gallery\, Market Place Gallery and Anne Street Gallery. She completed residencies at Penland School of Crafts and Zea May’s Printmaking.  Julianne earned her MFA in Printmaking from SUNY New Paltz in 2017 and BFA in Sculpture from the College of Saint Rose in 2008. She is currently working in Ithaca as the Art and Print Media Studio Manager and Visiting Critic in the Department of Art at Cornell University.

SUMMARY:Dan Welden | Aesop's Fables (Color Sequel)
DESCRIPTION:The series “Aesop’s Fables” is a series of symbolic gestures which employ visual opposites\, including the hare and the tortoise and the grasshopper and the ant\, as metaphors for the Yin Yang philosophy. Resurrecting 50-year-old found zinc etching plates that had oxidized beyond redemption\, Welden created these black and white works which are a tour-de-force of formal\, yet enigmatic power. Making his own tools\, the artist employed drypoint lines\, salt etch\, ink\, paper and a press to subject the dilapidated plates to a maelstrom of mark-making gestures. \n“The Color Sequel” consists of a hybrid series of the same images\, augmented with acrylic\, watercolor and crayon. Sneak a peek at danwelden.com. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Dan Welden has been a pioneer of alternative printmaking since 1970. He is the recipient of numerous awards\, including a Lifetime Achievement recognition from A/E foundation; a Professor Emeritus award from the Escuela de Beas Artes in Cuzco\, Peru\, and most recently a Pollock/Krasner Grant. Ninety-three solo exhibitions into Welden’s career\, the Cape Cod Museum of Art mounted a mammoth collaborative exhibition of his studio works on paper along with collaborations with Willem de Kooning\, Eric Fischl\, Kiki Smith and Dan Flavin\, to name but a few. He has been in 53 countries with numerous residencies including China\, Belgium\, New Zealand\, Cuba and Peru.

SUMMARY:Kaleb Hunkele | False Wall
DESCRIPTION:False Wall is a combination of materials\, process\, and prints. Two traditions inspire the patterns that make up these tiled prints: woven textiles and screen printed editions. Bringing the two together requires repetitive motion that results in repeating patterns and editions\, as many weavings and prints will do. These pieces\, made of found material cut to size and pattern-printed\, upend efficient regularity and instead rely on hand-painted backgrounds to bring irregularity to the changing movement of the body into the work. \nAs a printmaker\, I can’t refuse repetition and reproducible form outright. Still\, I do what I can to push against the disappearance of both authorship and the means of production that often go along with prints and textiles. False Wall invites you to a home where the processes of making and viewing come together not only as an encounter with still objects but rather\, colorful planes that convey both thought and feeling while reinterpreting tradition. \n\nThis pop-up exhibit will be visible from the sidewalk at Cayuga St. Gimme! 430 N Cayuga St\, Ithaca\, NY 14850\n\n
