SUMMARY:Intro to Collograph | Judy Barringer
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 6/6    3 PM – 6 PMSunday 6/7      3 PM – 6 PM \n$90 non-associates / $76.5 associates ($15 for materials) \nExperience a technique in printmaking that uses a textural collage-like surface\, but can have the range and nuance of intaglio. Using matboard as a base plate\, textures such as fabric\, sandpaper\, string and various papers are glued to the matboard and coated with acrylic polymer. Painterly textures can be created with modeling paste. Any style of art\, abstract or representational\, is applicable to the collagraph. There is no acid biting or exotic tools. The collagraph plate is printed with etching ink in an etching press. No experience is necessary to explore this wonderful technique! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Course Fee\n \n \n \n \n \n\n Price + materials fee $105.00 USD\n \n\n Associate Price + materials $91.50 USD\n \n\n First Time Student Price + materials $91.50 USD

SUMMARY:Monotype through Drawing | Sarah Smelser
DESCRIPTION:Monotype through Drawing | Sarah Smelser \nThursday 6/18    10 AM – 5 PMFriday 6/19    10 AM – 5 PM \n$230 non-associates / $190 associates ($45 for materials) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Course Fee\n \n \n \n \n \n\n Price + materials fee $275.00 USD\n \n\n Associate Price + materials $235.00 USD\n \n\n First Time Student Price + materials $235.00 USD\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Explore trace monotype\, which allows an artist to work with the specific vocabulary of  drawing while making one-of-a-kind prints. Done most effectively on dry Asian paper (sometimes called “rice paper”)\, trace monotype can stand on its own or it can be used as the  beginnings of collages or mixed media works. Trace monotype is portable and invites  possibilities for plein air printmaking. Workshop participants will also print on an etching press  and learn to stencil print\, counterproof\, and ghost print to augment their images and add flat  passages of color. Accessible and unique\, these techniques are for artists of varied experience\,  from beginning drawing students to seasoned printmakers. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sarah Smelser received her BA from University of California at Santa Cruz\, and her MA  and MFA from the University of Iowa. She has been an artist in residence at Vermont Studio  Center\, Franz Masereel Center\, Artica Bilbao\, Kala Art Institute\, Jentel Artist Residency\,  Skopelos Foundation for the Arts\, Anchor Graphics\, Ballinglen Arts Foundation\, and Tamarind  Institute.  \nSarah has taught monotype workshops at Kala Art Institute\, Berkeley\, CA; Remarque  Print Workshop\, Albuquerque\, NM; Chicago Printmakers Collaborative\, Chicago\, IL; Frogman’s  Print Workshop\, Omaha\, NE; and Rutgers University\, New Brunswick\, NJ.   sarahsmelser.com

SUMMARY:Intro to Soft Ground Etching | Nadia Holcomb
DESCRIPTION:Intro to Soft Ground Etching | Nadia Holcomb \nSaturday 6/20 3 PM – 6 PMSaturday 6/27 3 PM – 6 PMSunday 6/28 3 PM – 6 PM \n$135 non-associates / $114.75 associates ($35 for materials) \nThis workshop introduces students to the expressive process of soft ground etching on copper plates. Over the span of three guided 3-hour sessions\, students will explore the unique textures and line qualities made possible through soft ground printmaking. Participants will learn each step of the process—from preparing and applying a soft ground to a 4×4” copper plate\, to creating impressions with drawing materials and textured objects\, biting the plate\, inking\, and printing on the press. Students are encouraged to bring ideas\, fabrics\, leaves\, or other textured materials they’d like to experiment with. By the end of the workshop\, participants will create unique prints and gain a strong foundation in soft ground intaglio techniques. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Course Fee\n \n \n \n \n \n\n Price + materials fee $170.00 USD\n \n\n Associate Price + materials $149.75 USD\n \n\n First Time Student Price + materials $149.75 USD

SUMMARY:Case-Bound Bookbinding Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Case-Bound Bookbinding Workshop | Bradley Verhelle \nFriday 8/14 4pm – 6pm\nSaturday 8/15 10am – 2pm\nSunday 8/16 10am – 2pm \n\nOver three days\, participants will explore the craft of hand bookbinding from start to finish\, creating a complete hardcover book to take home.  Bookbinding is a valuable skill that integrates craft and design into archival practice\, empowering you to share your work in the intimate and durable format of the book. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $150 non-associates / $128 associates ($35 for materials) \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Course Fee\n \n \n \n \n \n\n Price + materials fee $185.00 USD\n \n\n Associate Price + materials $163.00 USD\n \n\n First Time Student Price + materials $163.00 USD\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nDay One: We’ll begin by introducing the tools\, materials\, and terminology of the bookbinder’s practice.  Participants will learn the anatomy of a case-bound book\, explore different binding styles\, and prepare their text blocks for sewing.  At the end of the session\, we will begin hands-on work using the introduced tools and techniques\, continuing throughout the weekend. \n\n\n\nDay Two: With text blocks prepared\, participants will sew their books and begin constructing the outer cases.  Participants will personalize their books by selecting book cloth\, endpapers\, and decorative cover papers to work with\, measuring and cutting their cases to the size of their textblocks.\n\nDay Three: In the final session\, participants will bring their books together by casing-in their text blocks\, adding endpapers\, and attaching head and tail bands.  Once assembled\, books will rest in the press overnight to dry.  At the end of the course we will discuss finishing touches\, care\, and repair of handmade books.\n\nStudents will also receive a detailed handout on the course to follow along with and take home.  Previous experience with book arts is encouraged but not required—all are welcome to join and learn the art of binding books by hand.
