Silk screen printing is a fun, nontoxic printing process that involves both photo and handmade stencils. This workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of silkscreen printing using digital+handmade stencils, photosensitive emulsion, and a UV Light exposure unit. Silk screen printing is a great way to make multiples and has a long standing history with visual culture. The process is linked to activism and message dissemination as exemplified by artists like Sister Corita Kent and Glenn Ligon. Other artists who use this process include Mickalene Thomas, Jeffrey Dell, Pat Steir, Shephard Fairey, Seripop, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol, among many others.
Please email a digital image or graphic to ecm248@cornell.edu with the subject line “Stencil” by October 6, 2022. This will be the image that gets exposed onto your screen and printed during the workshop
Paper, Ink, and prepared screens will be provided.
