The Ink Shop is honored to celebrate the work of H. Peter Kahn (1921–1997), an accomplished printmaker, painter, typographer, and teacher whose artistic vision and generous mentorship helped inspire the founding of the Ink Shop. At the invitation of Kahn’s family, we have been welcomed into the drawers and stacks of his work, bringing together woodcuts, drawings, books, and papers that offer an intimate look at a remarkably varied creative life. Best known to many in our community as a printmaker and mentor, Kahn moved freely among image, letter, and page, exploring the relationships between visual art, language, and the printed object. His woodcuts and graphic work sit at the heart of this exhibition, alongside selections of his painting and typography.
Kahn’s influence extended beyond the work he produced to the students and fellow artists he encouraged, the knowledge he shared, and the creative community he helped nurture. For the Ink Shop, presenting his work is a way to honor that legacy.
