The style that was developed with Wolf Kahn in the early 1980’s specified using water-soluble crayons and ink, primarily from Speedball and Caran D’Ache inks. He initially used scumble and blending techniques to create the impressive tones/washes that you see in his oil paintings. Participants can focus on the process utilizing a frosted mylar plate with a thin coat of gum Arabic, and then reactivating ghost images, creating amazing second pulls. Mackie worked with Wolf Kahn and Emily Mason starting in 1989 at Kathy Caraccio’s second floor walkup on the NYC Bowery. Kahn and Mason both continued to explore with Mackie printmaking techniques that coupled with their natural art practice. This experience led to Lisa getting her own press and her own studio, in collaboration with many different artists, including Wolf and Emily. This specific workshop focuses on one of the art practices that Wolf employed in over 20 years of printmaking experiences with Lisa Mackie.
