Jari Poulin | Mirage

Mirage features a series of images that combine monoprints and black and white photographic transfers to create dream like worlds that speak to memory and imagination.  The work integrates her fascination with the idea of mirage or optical illusion by combining her images of specific places and people of her past with additional layers of monoprinting and other printmaking techniques that activate the emotional context and memory of the physical photograph.

Intro to Reductive Woodcut | Julianne Hunter

In this five-week introductory course, students will explore ma king woodcut prints using color inks. We will go over tools, equipment, registration techniques and see some examples before beginning your own artwork. Then students will create several multi-layer prints in reductive woodcut and participate in a print exchange with their classmates. No prior experience needed.

Monotype with Stencils for Parent & Child | Craig & Jasper

This workshop is a fun family printmaking class. We will be painting stenciled mylar plates with water-based inks to create subtle and intricate monotype prints. The process allows you to paint quickly onto the mylar plates, then transfer the ink to dampened paper using an etching press. You will learn about ghost images, which can achieve wonderful effects with immediate results. This technique is completely non-toxic.

Intro to Intaglio-Intensive | Julianne Hunter

In this course we will cover the basic methods and techniques of intaglio, including etching and drypoint, as well as explore some "experimental" mark making approaches.

Intro to Silk Screen | Erin Miller

Saturday, October 8, NOON-4pm

$60 non-associates / $51 associates ($$35 for materials)

Silk screen printing is a fun, nontoxic printing process that involves both photo and handmade stencils. This workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of silkscreen printing using digital+handmade stencils, photosensitive emulsion, and a UV Light exposure unit. Silk screen printing is a great way to make multiples and has a long standing history with visual culture. The process is linked to activism and message dissemination as exemplified by artists like Sister Corita Kent and Glenn Ligon. Other artists who use this process include Mickalene Thomas, Jeffrey Dell, Pat Steir, Shephard Fairey, Seripop, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol, among many others. To participate, please bring photo copies of photographs and/or hand drawings made from pencil or ink and I will show you how to prepare them for the screen. Paper, Ink, and prepared screens will be provided.

Introduction to Bookbinding | Laura Rowley

Mondays 6-9pm, October 10, 17,24 & 31

Learn the art and craft of hand-binding in this introductory class. We'll discuss the fascinating evolution of the physical book, study the properties of paper and materials used in bookmaking, and practice crafting a series of useful and beautiful book structures. The structures will include: the Pamphlet Stitch, Accordion Fold, Long-and-Link, and Coptic Binding. All levels of experience are welcome.

Holiday Print Sale

The Ink Shop has its Annual Print Sale before the holidays. Our collection of prints is extensive and it represents some of the best printmakers around. The work exhibited in this print sale will make great gifts. We encourage everyone to bring some wonderful handmade prints home, support the Arts and local artists.
