Bio
My work investigates the transformative quality deterioration has on objects and memories. Personal relics and associations to physical places compose the foundation for the work; I then use printmaking techniques to create a connection between the process of decay and the beauty it generates. By forcing close proximity between development and deterioration, the material’s transformation becomes immediate
Statement
Using images from the house I grew up in has become a way to create a personal connection to my work while allowing viewers to experience it in their own way. Returning to this now uninhabitable space has presented something new for me in the wake of its loss. This space was once protective and solid, like a nest, but still permeable. Now vacant, it is untended and deteriorating, but somehow seems more secure in its degradation. This current body of work is an exploration of this metamorphosis of structure.
