Moment without thinking
Bio
I have lived in Ithaca for 20 years, taught at Ithaca College for 18 years with a Ph.D. in Media Studies. After leaving academia as a full-time job, I teach yoga and movement classes and devote more time to art, community, and being with family in Hungary. My academic work focuses on digital well-being, mindfulness, hyper-consumerism, and global media empires. While at Ithaca College, I had enrolled in art classes in drawing, oil painting, sculpture, and print making; and as a visiting scholar, had taken oil painting classes in Southern France at The Institute for American Universities (IAU). I am currently affiliated with the Leo Marchutz School of Painting & Drawing located in Aix-en-Provence, France. In Ithaca, I am member of the Art Share Group at The Soil Factory and have co-organized several community and art exhibitions (e.g. Summer Solstice Festival, 2025). I fell in love with relief printing in 2020 (woodblock and linoleum) and joined the Ink Shop in 2026 as a Printmaker Associate.
Statement
I teach and practice digital mindfulness in the classroom; body awareness and meditation on the yoga mat. As an artist, I like to wonder and pause– capture moments with a camera, a brush, a pencil; experiment with shapes and vibrating colors. I am a “Messenger,” to borrow Mary Oliver’s poem, slowing down, tuning inward and outward towards the natural world; “learning to be astonished” by the ultimate wonders of our world.* My art practice is intuitive and contemplative, bordering on abstract impressionism and expressionism (to use fancy terms). My art practice is a form of meditation with the focus on the process, creating from “a pause” and stillness. I want to gently nudge everyone to “start art” (local stART community art project in the making) and share their process (e.g. The Soil Factory’s Art Share group). As a printmaker, I enjoy experimenting with unconventional papers such as sturdy wrapping paper, mixing colors, textures, layers. Often without a predetermined plan, I let the carving tools and surfaces guide the process using woodblock and linoleum blocks. I’m grateful for my local Ithaca mentors and teachers, Pat Hunsinger, Patty Capaldi, Ann Guiliani, Frances Gallardo, Bill Hastings, Linda Weintraub; and special thanks to my family, friends and The Soil Factory Art Share group for their continuous support.
