Hidden Books: the Art of Kum Korf

A documentary about life's treasures and the work of an artist to reveal them.

Showing and question and talk at Cinemapolis Friday, April 6, 2012   9:15pm until 10:30pm
Presented by Cornell Cinema & the Ink Shop Printmaking Center $7  (Tickets available at @ Cinemapolis)

Come and meet the director Sam Hampton, producer Kirsten Hampton, composer Robby Aceto and artist Kumi Korf.

This lovely, award winning short film about local, yet internationally known artist Kumi Korf, unfolds very much like one of Kumi's artworks. A painter, print and bookmaker, Kumi was born in Japan, but has lived most of her life in Ithaca. This documentary gives a unique perspective on Kumi's life as an artist, and how the world around her influences her work. With music by local composer Robby Aceto. My prints suggest extremes of weather and natural forces at work, a sense of the micro/macrocosm, set against landscape or space, both wild and cultivated, intimate and unknowable. I am interested in the span of time it takes to wear away a canyon, build a mountain, the erosion forces that continually wash onto the plains, forming the earth, and, ultimately, shaping our world. My hope is that these larger concepts are provoked by viewing my work with a poetic and intelligent sense of wonder."
