Introduction to Bookbinding | Laura Rowley

Learn the art and craft of hand-binding in this introductory class. We’ll discuss the fascinating evolution of the physical book, study the properties of paper and materials used in bookmaking, and practice crafting a series of useful and beautiful book structures. The structures will include: the Pamphlet Stitch, Accordion Fold, Long-and-Link, and Coptic Binding. All levels of experience are welcome.
About the Instructor:
Laura Rowley (she/they) is a teaching book artist and founder of Illuminated Press, a micro press which publishes handmade books in small editions. She has taught Book Arts at Wells College and the Rochester InstituteĀ of Technology as well as community classes locally and beyond. Laura studied bookbinding, letterpress printing, and hand papermaking at Wells College (BA) and the University of Alabama (MFA).
