Intro to Color Reduction Woodcut | Jenny Pope

Learn the basic techniques of making color reduction relief prints using MDF (medium density fiberboard)! We will focus on registration, mixing inks, and editioning a final print. No prior experience necessary. Students will go home with a print and the knowledge of how to do it again.

Screenprint Monotype | Erin Miller

WORKSHOP FULL

A dynamic and interactive experience for artists of all levels, participants will learn how to create one-of-a-kind prints using the screenprinting process in conjunction with monotype techniques. They will start by creating their designs, which will then be transferred onto a screen for printing. Participants will use vivid inks and various printing tools to build multiple layers, transparencies, and textures to complete their final prints. This workshop encourages participants to embrace their creativity and take risks as they explore new ways of making prints.

Monotype with Stencils, Parent & Child Workshop | Craig Mains

This workshop is a fun family printmaking class. We will be painting stenciled mylar plates with water-based inks to create subtle and intricate monotype prints. This process allows you to paint quickly onto the mylar plates, then transfer the ink to dampened paper using an etching press. You will learn about ghost images, which can achieve wonderful effects with immediate results. This technique is completely non-toxic and the fee covers participation for 1 parent and elementary school age child.

Intro to Etching | Lindsey Potoff

Copper plate etching is a process where a polished piece of copper is processed with either engraving or an acid bath with the intention of creating grooves and lines to hold ink. Ink is applied to the whole plate, then carefully wiped down leaving the ink the grooves and lines. The plate is then ran through the press with a sheet of damp paper for the final print.

Hannah Law | Day to Day

Hannah Law is an artist, musician and educator who is deeply concerned with craft and the medium's egalitarian spirit. She focuses on scenes from everyday life; countrysides from her hometown in upstate New York, wildlife and domestic still lives. She creates images of places and objects that are familiar.

Introduction to Box Making | Adam Bryant

This class will address fundamental skills needed to make boxes covered with cloth and lined with paper. Students will each make a lidded box. Cloth and paper will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring paper of their own choice to line the floor of the box.

Linocut for Beginners | Hannah Law

In this class, students will be guided through the linoleum cut relief printing process start to finish. The process will include creating a sketch for a print, transferring it onto a block of linoleum, carving with tools, and printing on the press.

Suminagashi Paper Marbling | Irina Kassabova

Suminagashi is a process of marbling paper which originated in Japan. Students will learn this technique of decorating a sheet of paper with ink patterns floating on the surface of water. We will experiment with various patterns, papers and techniques.

Seeing Ithaca | Member Exhibit 2023

The Ink Shop Printmaking Center will show member work, either Ithaca inspired or created here. Our studio has several new members and we are excited to add their unique contributions to the pool of diverse printmaking imagery and techniques that the Ink Shop artists use. This exhibit is in conjunction with our annual Member Exhibit which provides the opportunity to see the creative and skilled work coming out of Ithaca’s own community print studio.

Fred Madden Retrospective

We are excited to present the brilliant and beautiful work of multi-talented and creative artist, Fred Madden. This selection represents years of Fred's passion for photography and imagery that is playful the use of color, light, and pattern and often rooted in experimentation. His observations of nature are a unique form of digital impressionism that is both reflective and delightful. Fred was a professor of English at Ithaca College, a photographer and a longtime beloved member of the Ink Shop Printmaking Center.

22nd Mini Print International Call for Entry

Cash Prize up to $500! The 22nd Mini Print International is a juried exhibition of prints no larger than 4”x4”. A maximum of four (4) original prints in any traditional or contemporary graphic process, including computer generated prints, will be accepted. Photographs are not admitted unless they are artistically manipulated by a graphic process. We accept submissions from all artists internationally, 18 years or older.
