Explore trace monotype, which allows an artist to work with the specific vocabulary of drawing while making one-of-a-kind prints. Done most effectively on dry Asian paper (sometimes called “rice paper”), trace monotype can stand on its own or it can be used as the beginnings of collages or mixed media works. Trace monotype is portable and invites possibilities for plein air printmaking.

Each year, The Ink Shop launches a Members' show, giving our membership the opportunity to exhibit their newest work. This exhibit will be our first in the Fred Madden Gallery using our new 2nd floor entrance, accessible via the front stairway or the public elevator.
Come visit us at the 34th Annual Artist Market! There will be over 80 local artists, live music by the East Hill Jazz Group and delicious food, wine, beer, cider, and desserts from local vendors.
Over three days, participants will explore the craft of hand bookbinding from start to finish, creating a complete hardcover book to take home. Bookbinding is a valuable skill that integrates craft and design into archival practice, empowering you to share your work in the intimate and durable format of the book.

The upcoming Lisa Mackie exhibition at The Ink Shop in Ithaca is a meditation on the phrase “The Forest for the Trees.” To not see the forest for the trees means to not appreciate a larger situation because one has focused on only a few individual details. Mackie thinks that the individual details, in art and in every context, are critically important. What is a forest without its individual trees? What is a painting without its individual brushstrokes? The individual words “the,” “forest,” “for the,” and “trees” are as much a subject matter to Mackie as the trees and animals found in forests.
